We are connecting rural areas of Bangladesh with practicing doctors through the telemedicine platform. For this sake, we have established a telemedicine center in the remote sites of Naria Upazila, Shariatpur District Bangladesh. This is an impoverished area with a native population of approximately 225,000, and where the average income hovers around $1,200. The healthcare facilities have been broken due to the Padma River erosion in August 2018. In Naria Upazila, there was an only two-story building of the Naria Upazila Health complex, which was over 500 meters away from the bank that has been destroyed now. Over 4,000 families have become homeless and they do not have proper access to the healthcare facilities due to the availability of doctors, medical staff, and infrastructure facilities. Also, most of the medical doctors prefer to work in urban areas due to living facilities and other fringe benefits. Because of Naria’s location in central Bangladesh, patients who are in need of even the most rudimentary clinical and diagnostic services must first endure a seven-hour ride by ferry or a five-hour bus ride along primitive roads, followed by a harrowing, often dangerous, ride by speedboat. Therefore, telemedicine is the right solution for this region. Every month around 450 rural patients get telehealth services from our platform and we are planning to expand our telehealth service to other rural regions of Bangladesh as well.
